Visiting Scholars (2022-2024)
Visiting PhD student/postdoc positions are available for motivated hematologists or hematopathologists to join a dynamic group at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our interests include three groups of diseases: CML/MPN, MDS/AML, and B-cell lymphomas, and three molecules: BCR-ABL1, EVI1 and MYC. However, we are open to any areas of hematology, both neoplastic and benign. The visiting scholars are expected to finish several half-ready projects based on established databases in one or two of these diseases leading to rapid publications in highly-regarded journals in hematology and pathology. They can also develop projects based on their own interest. They will dedicate about two-third of their time to data analysis, literature review and manuscript writing, and one third to data collection. No bench work is needed. Any additional experiment/tests will be performed by other supporting staff or research core facilities. Besides publishing, we put high priority on skill development and long-term career growth of our group members. One year commitment is required. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This is a highly competitive position.
Expected skills:
1. Ability of conceptual thinking and ability to focus on big pictures; being motivated, dedicated and focused
2. Excellent written English; being willing to read literature broadly
3. Background in hematology or hematopathology, with at least one 1st-author publication in an English journal
4. Knowledge of cytogenetics and computer skills are extremely helpful. Skills in programming and statistical or mathematical modeling are highly sought after.

MD Anderson is one of the largest cancer centers in the world. We have about 21,000 employees, 6,000-7,000 clinical and research trainees, observers and visitors, and about 1,100 volunteers. We have been ranked as the top cancer hospital for 14 of the past 15 years, and one of the top two cancer hospitals every year since U.S. News & World Report began its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” survey in 1990. Our doctors treat more rare cancers in a single day than most physicians see in a lifetime.
